Arabica (coffee plant) is easy to grow as a houseplant with attractive glossy, textured leaves. Native to Ethiopia and cultivated in Yemen, Arabica is now the primary source of coffee around the world. About 60% of the coffee produced comes from the Arabica variety.
When grown as a houseplant arabica can produce a few beans suitable for producing coffee, but it will take a lot of care and patience. It takes about 3 to 5 years for a coffee plant to reach maturity and bloom. The flowers can be pollinated by hand, which will help the plant grow the red berries that will contain coffee beans. Coffee plants grown indoors as houseplants will not be as productive as the larger arabica trees that grow outdoors, but you may be able to grow a few beans to produce your own brew!
